An attorney for an Alabama lawmaker indicted on federal charges in an alleged kickback scheme says his client is “guilty of no crimes.”

Republican state Rep. Ed Henry of Hartselle was arrested Thursday after being charged in U.S. District Court with paying kickbacks to a doctor’s office that referred Medicare patients to his health care business.

Max Pulliam is Henry’s defense attorney.

He told The Associated Press that Henry’s company provided legitimate services that improved people’s health.

He also said Henry “paid no kickbacks to any person.”

Henry also took to Facebook to defend himself. He posted: “My goal was to help patients, and I did.”
