APTV to livestream remainder of state legislative session

Alabama Public Television (APTV) will stream on its website the committee meetings and votes for the remainder of the regular 2020 session of the Alabama state legislature.

The heads of Alabama’s two legislative bodies, House Speaker Mac McCutcheon (R-Monrovia) and Senate Pro Tem Del Marsh (R-Anniston), agreed earlier this week that the remainder of the session will focus exclusively on passing the state’s budgets and local legislation.

The committee meetings that determine the content of the final bills are not normally broadcast, however, journalists and members of the public can and do attend.

Since coronavirus precautions prohibit public attendance, APTV is working with the legislature to make sure the people of Alabama can see what their elected officials are doing while in commitee.

Video streaming of votes in the Senate chamber has been made available in recent years, but only audio streaming of the House has been made available.

It is not yet clear whether APTV will provide live video streaming of House votes.

The first meeting APTV will stream is the Senate Finance and Taxation General Fund Commitee at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28.

The page where meetings will be streamed can be accessed here.
