Anthony Daniels: If IVF issue not resolved, Republicans could face ‘bloodbath’ in November

House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels elaborated on his proposed solution to the IVF Alabama Supreme Court ruling as state lawmakers deliberate a way forward.

That ruling, according to Daniels (D-Huntsville), has already made it more difficult for parents struggling with fertility to start a family.

“I’ve heard from many families across the state of Alabama that are very concerned,” told Capitol Journal‘s Todd Stacy.

“A family that recently got married, they’re in their 40’s, and they finally have a viable embryo,” said Daniels. “But their scheduled for their appointment on March 11 and they have been called by that fertility clinic and said that your appointment has been postponed.”

“What my bill would do is essentially halt the Supreme Court decision,” Daniels said. “It will put a pause on the Supreme Court decision, saying that a fertilized embryo is not a child.”

“That’s essentially what it does. It doesn’t talk about when life begins or ends.”

Daniels also explained why he believes Trump called on state lawmakers to quickly address the issue last week.

“The mere fact that former President Trump mentioned in his remarks about protecting IVF could send a signal to Republicans in the state of Alabama that they must address this issue as quickly as possible.”

“I think the former President understands the political implications in November as well because if this issue is not resolved it will be a bloodbath in November,” Daniels said.
