Anniston jail guard facing charges for sex with an inmate

(Calhoun County Jail)

Another guard at a county jail in Alabama has been arrested and charged with having sex with an inmate.

Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade told news outlets Monday that Justin Avery Stamps is charged with custodial sexual misconduct.Wade said the charge against Stamps comes after an investigation that led to the arrest of Charles Marcel James involving another inmate last week.

The sheriff said after James’ arrest, investigators began looking at phone records to see if any other inmate calls matched officers’ phone numbers.

They found 125 calls between a female inmate and Stamps since April.

The relationship apparently began before the inmate entered the jail.

Wade said investigators found evidence that Stamps put money into the inmate’s jail account.

It was not known if Stamps has an attorney.
