American Legion Auxiliary Alabama Girls State returns to Tuscaloosa with record-breaking delegation

The 83rd session of the American Legion Auxiliary Alabama Girls State will take place June 1–6 on the campus of The University of Alabama, welcoming the largest delegation in the program’s history.

More than 400 rising high school seniors from across the state are set to attend this year’s session, which offers a hands-on, week-long introduction to government and civic engagement. Delegates will engage in activities such as drafting and debating legislation, participating in political party caucuses, running for office, and learning directly from state and national leaders.

Distinguished speakers for the 2025 session include Governor Kay Ivey and U.S. Senator Katie Britt, both of whom are alumnae of Alabama Girls State. Britt was elected Girls State Governor in 1999, while Ivey served as Lieutenant Governor during her time as a delegate.

The week will culminate with a visit to Montgomery, where participants will tour the State Capitol, Supreme Court, and Governor’s Mansion, and hold legislative sessions at the Alabama State House.
