Allen delivers on campaign pledge, visits all 67 counties

State Rep. Wes Allen (R-Troy), GOP nominee for secretary of state, has fulfilled his campaign pledge to visit each of Alabama’s 67 counties.

In a Tuesday news release, the South Alabama lawmaker said becoming acquainted with the citizenry throughout the race was important in delivering his message.

“This is a big state,” said Allen. “I have travelled nearly 100,000 miles by car throughout this campaign and I have now made my case on why I should be elected as Alabama’s next secretary of state in each of Alabama’s 67 counties. Meeting voters in every county in the state was important to me and it is important to the voters.”

Even after posting a dominant performance in the June 21 GOP primary runoff, Allen continued to pursue votes headed into the November general election. The lawmaker defeated State Auditor Jim Zeigler by nearly a 31% margin.

“I have visited every county but I am not slowing down,” he said. “I will campaign as I hard as I possibly can until the polls close on November 8.”

Allen is the only candidate for secretary of state who has visited all 67 counties, according to his campaign. A former Pike County probate judge, Allen serves Pike and Dale counties in the Legislature’s lower chamber.

Allen is seeking to replace term-limited Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill.

The general election will take place Nov. 8.
