ALGOP Steering Committee votes no confidence in RNC chair

Even though the Republican Party was able to regain control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2022 midterm elections, many are still disappointed in the results and the lack of an expected “red wave.”

The GOP only gained nine seats in the House and failed to retake control of the Senate by losing one seat in the upper chamber.

Many in the party, including some in Alabama, blame Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel’s leadership for underwhelming results.

The Alabama Republican Party Steering Committee now believes it’s time for the McDaniel to go, declaring a vote of no-confidence in her leadership.

According to a news release, the committee gave the following reasons for the decision:

  • We believe that RNC leadership needs a new vision for future elections.
  • We believe that the RNC needs to make defending the American people and their God-given rights and freedom a priority.
  • We believe that the Republican Party needs to stand strong for the party platform, and the principles that made this country great.
  • We believe that the RNC needs fresh, new leadership who can inspire and lead grassroots Republicans to victory

The group concluded that the they hope the Republican Party will replace the leadership decision soon.

“For these reasons, the Alabama Republican Party’s Steering Committee cannot support or
endorse Ronna McDaniel for RNC Chair and declare our vote of no-confidence in her leadership,” the committee said. “We encourage all RNC members across the country to support new leadership at the RNC Winter Meeting.”
