ALGOP Chairman John Wahl: ‘This is more than a political battle. This is a battle between light and darkness’

Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl had a bold message for those in attendance at the Trump Victory Dinner in Birmingham Thursday night: America is back.

Before presenting awards to state lawmakers, introducing U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn), and firing up the crowd for the headlining speaker, Wahl talked about why he believes President Trump’s victory was so important for the future of the country.

“The battle for America has really just started,” Wahl said.

“This is going to be an ongoing process. And I talked a lot before the election about what was at stake. And in my opinion, this is more than a political battle. This is a battle between light and darkness. It’s a battle between freedom and tyranny. It’s an underlying, fundamental issue.”

Donald Trump, Jr.’s visit to Alabama comes after his sister in law, Lara Trump, spoke at the Alabama Republican Party’s 2024 Summer Dinner while his father, President Trump, delivered the keynote address at the organization’s 2023 Summer Dinner.

Wahl said the American people didn’t just give Trump a mandate — but sent a message about the true role of government in our lives.

“Who knows how to live your life better?”

“Is it an all-powerful, centralized federal government? Or is it you as an individual? And that’s that Grand American experiment that we all talk about — the American Dream — the fact that we believe in liberty and freedom, and that each individual gets to direct the course of their life,” Wahl said.

“And that idea, the vision of our founding fathers, this message coming down throughout our history as a country, the American people answered the fundamental question on November 5th, and that question was: ‘Do you choose America, or do you want change?’”

“And the people of America sent a very clear message: ‘We still believe in the United States of America.’”
