PRATTVILLE, Ala. — With three championship public golf courses and a prime location on the Alabama River, Prattville has been named one of the Top 25 places to retire by MONEY Magazine. The central Alabama city topped the “For Golf Lovers” category for its place in the heart of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail which stretches across 11 sites in Alabama.

Prattville combines affordable living with a golfer’s paradise. The median home price is $150,415 and property taxes average around $490 annually. Add in the 24 golf courses within 30 miles and you can see how the city beat out Tyler, Texas, Fishers, Indiana, Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Clermont, Florida for MONEY’s top spot of golfer’s choices.

Continuing its praise, The magazine wrote of Prattville, “If golf and retirement go together like gin and tonic, Prattville may just be the Tanqueray 10 of golfing towns. It is home to three championship courses and sits in the middle of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, a 486-hole, 26-course putters’ paradise stretching over 11 Alabama sites.”

The area has many different courses that provided a variety of options. “Each of Prattville’s courses has its own character,” The MONEY piece reads. “The Judge, which hugs the Alabama River, is arguably the prettiest. The tough, hilly Legislator winds across a cypress swamp. The Senator was named by ‘Travel + Leisure’ as one of the 100 best courses for under $100. They’re all affordable and open to the public. Greens fees run $45 in the winter and summer and up to $74 in the spring and fall.”

In an interview with the Montgomery Advertiser, Capitol Hill Director of Golf Mike Beverly expressed how much the recognition means for the goals of the Robert Trent Jones Trail. ” What makes this recognition rewarding is that we are achieving what [Retirement Systems of Alabama CEO] Dr. Bronner intended for the Trail in its inception, which was to build world class golf and change the image of the state while attracting golfers from all over the world to come to Alabama.”
