Alabama Shakes conquer the world with first Billboard No. 1 album

ATHENS, Ala. — Alabama Shakes, the Grammy-winning funky soul rock band from Athens, just saw their sophomore album hit number 1 on the Billboard top 200 chart, the first time the group has reached the top spot.

Sound & Color reached reached number 1 just a week after it was released. The Alabama Shakes’ first album peaked at number 6, after being available for nearly a year.

Billboard records the number of album sales using several metrics including traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

The band’s second album is receiving praise from all corners of the music world. Just Wednesday pop star and former N*SYNC lead singer Justin Timberlake tweeted about how much he loved the new album, calling it “perfect.”
