Alabama Public Television will reduce and reorganize staff positions after a loss of more than $2 million in federal funding for fiscal year 2026, the state entity announced on Thursday.

The announcement follows federal legislation targeting funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, including President Trump’s $9 billion rescissions package, and a separate order halting NPR and PBS funding.

“This is a very difficult day for Alabama Public Television,” Executive Director Wayne Reid said, thanking employees for “years of service, hard work, and dedication.”

Earlier this year, Reid said the cuts from Washington were predictable because of the “bias problem” that exists with their national programming.

APT said in its statement Thursday it remains committed to providing educational programming, trusted news and information, and cultural content that reflects Alabama’s heritage.
