Some of Alabama’s public officials are showing their support for President-elect Donald Trump’s new pick to be U.S. Attorney General in his administration.

After U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) withdrew his name from consideration for the role, Trump announced that he’s nominating former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to be America’s next Attorney General.

“I am proud to announce former Attorney General of the great state of Florida, Pam Bondi, as our next Attorney General of the United States,” Trump said on social media. “Pam was a prosecutor for nearly 20 years, where she was very tough on violent criminals, and made the streets safe for Florida families. Then, as Florida’s first female Attorney General, she worked to stop the trafficking of deadly drugs, and reduce the tragedy of Fentanyl overdose deaths, which have destroyed many families across our country. She did such an incredible job, that I asked her to serve on our opioid and drug abuse commission during my first term — we saved many lives!”

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall congratulated Bondi for being chosen.

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) said he hopes the Senate will confirm her as soon as possible.

ALGOP Chair John Wahl said this was a smart decision by the President-elect.

“I think Matt Gaetz made the right decision withdrawing,” Wahl said Friday on WVNN. “And I think Pam Bondi has a bright future. She’s an incredibly good litigator. She knows what she’s doing. She’s got the experience from Florida, and I think she’s ready to take the helm here. And a very good move, both for the Trump team, but more importantly, a good move for our country, because if we’re going to actually have a chance to fundamentally restore America.”
