Alabama and Ohio will now cross-check their voter rolls to prevent double registration, Secretary of State Wes Allen announced today.

Ohio’s partnership with the Alabama Voter Integrity Database (AVID) marks the ninth such decision from another state to assist in the fight against voter fraud.

In 2023, Secretary Allen withdrew Alabama from the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC) over security concerns in exchange for AVID. Most recently, Texas joined AVID in March of this year.

On Monday, Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen announced that Ohio is also on board.

“Maintaining the cleanest and most accurate voter file in the country is a top priority of my Office,” Allen said.

“This MOU provides for the comparison of the Alabama and Ohio voter files to identify individuals registered to vote in both states. When a potentially ineligible voter is discovered after this comparison occurs, the Secretary of State’s office will begin the voter removal process in accordance with state and federal law.”

Allen expressed his thanks to officials in Ohio for their valued partnership and hard work on the matter.

“Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose and his team have been great partners throughout the process of drafting and executing this MOU,” he said. “This MOU will result in a cleaner, more accurate voter file for both Alabamians and Ohioans alike, and that is something we can all be very proud of.”

According to Allen, Alabama is leading the pack in forming the new multi-state voter database cross-registration system.

“The implementation of AVID to help maintain our voter rolls is incredibly important. We are the first state in the nation to implement a system like this. And I am confident that we, as a result of AVID will have the cleanest voter rolls that we have ever had.”
