Alabama lawmakers show support for Columbus Day despite ‘leftist’ attempt to rename it

Several Alabama lawmakers are still celebrating Columbus Day despite calls from some activists and Democratic politicians to officially rename the holiday to “Indigenous People’s Day.”

Former President Donald Trump’s Presidential campaign criticized Vice President Kamala Harris Monday for past comments she made suggesting that the holiday should be changed.

“Kamala Harris is your stereotypical leftist. Not only does she want to raise taxes and defund the police – she also wants to cancel American traditions like Columbus Day,” Trump campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News.

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) showed his continuing support for the day that celebrates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the Americas.
