Alabama has some of America’s cheapest gasoline, and it’s about to get even cheaper

Gas tax
According to the research done by GasBuddy, most Alabamians are paying much less for gasoline than their fellow Americans. The statewide average price for a gallon of gas is currently $1.89, whereas the national average is $2.13, and it looks like it may soon get even cheaper.

The site reports that the cheapest gas in the state can be found in Northeast Birmingham, where one station is selling it for $1.62 per gallon. On the flip side, one customer reported paying $2.85 per gallon at a station in Arab.

Overall, the site reports that gas prices are fairly stable at the moment. The price for a barrel of crude oil on the market sits at $41.14.

But as a result of gasoline “stockpile,” prices at the pump may be preparing to drop even lower.

The Montgomery Advertiser explains:

The good news for drivers – and the bad news for the energy industry – is that the stockpile of summer gas is too high. It’s so high that bulk gasoline suppliers are abandoning summer blend production and starting to make winter-blend gas that they can’t sell until September, according to Gas Buddy.

Of course, that’s taking a chance that demand for fall gas will be strong. If it’s not, those winter pump prices may be cheaper than anything we’ve seen in decades.

Not only do Alabama gas stations have cheap gasoline, some of them even have good food.
