Alabama Forestry Association endorses State Sen. David Sessions’ reelection campaign

The Alabama Forestry Association (AFA) on Tuesday announced its endorsement of State Sen. David Sessions (R-Grand Bay) in his reelection bid to the Alabama State Senate to serve District 35.

Sessions is a lifelong resident of Alabama and a 1978 graduate of Mobile County High School. He is co-owner of Session Farms, a family farming operation in south Mobile County. Sessions serves as president of Grand Bay Water Works as well as supervisor on the board of the Mobile County Soil and Water Conservation District.

AFA president and CEO Chris Isaacson hailed Sessions for his record of supporting forestry-related issues in the legislature’s upper chamber.

“As a farmer himself, David has a unique understanding of the needs of the forest products
industry,” said Isaacson. “He fights to protect private property rights and maintain low taxes, principles that are important to our members. We are glad to support him in his bid for reelection.”

Sessions was first elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in a special election in 2011 and went on to become chairman of the House Agriculture and Forestry Commission. In 2018, Sessions successfully ran for the Alabama State Senate.

As vice chairman of the Senate Agriculture Conservation and Forestry committee, AFA says Sessions was instrumental in designating forestry as an essential business during the COVID-19 pandemic. The association says his efforts ensured that citizens had access to forest products that are critical to everyday life and kept the Alabama’s second largest manufacturing industry working.

Sessions touted the role AFA plays in supporting the Alabama business community.

“I am proud to have the endorsement of the Alabama Forestry Association,” said Sessions. “As a farmer, I understand how vital and important forestry is to our state’s economy and AFA does a great job of making sure that the needs of the industry are met. It is clear that they are close to the land and that is close to my heart.”

Senate District 35 encompasses Mobile County. The primary election is slated to occur on May 24, 2022.
