The Alabama Forestry Association (AFA) on Thursday announced its endorsement of former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions in Alabama’s 2020 U.S. Senate race.

Sessions is facing former Auburn University head football coach Tommy Tuberville in the Yellowhammer State’s March 31 Republican primary runoff. The GOP nominee will face U.S. Senator Doug Jones (D-AL) in November.

The Sessions campaign told Yellowhammer News that the AFA voted to endorse Sessions on Wednesday, the day after President Donald J. Trump endorsed Tuberville.

“We are proud to endorse Senator Jeff Sessions in the United States Senate race. He served the people of Alabama in this seat for 20 years. He effectively represented the people of Alabama’s interest and values then and we feel confident that he will do the same again,” AFA executive vice president Chris Isaacson said in a statement.

A release from AFA emphasized that the association “has been proud to stand with Sessions in conservative battles through the years.” Over the past 25 years, the AFA has endorsed Sessions for every political office that he has sought.

“I am proud to be endorsed by the Alabama Forestry Association. They have been stalwart partners in the fight to protect and defend Alabama’s conservative values. This is a time of great peril for Alabama and the nation, and we must have a Senator representing us who knows every inch of this state and who can vigorously defend Alabama’s interests,” Sessions commented.

Tuberville has been endorsed by the Alabama Farmers Federation in the race.
