Alabama faces huge test against Saint Mary’s to advance to Sweet Sixteen

The No. 2 seed in the East region Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the No. 15 seed Robert Morris Colonials on Friday afternoon by a score of 90-81 to advance to the second round. The Tide will now face off against No. 7 seed St. Mary’s Gaels on Sunday in Cleveland.

The West Coast Conference champions play a completely different style of basketball than Alabama and could present a significant test. While the Tide will want to push the pace and get as many possessions as possible, the Gaels are the complete opposite.

If the Tide can get through the game on Sunday they will be halfway towards their goal of a return trip to the Final Four.

According to KenPom, Alabama ranks No. 1 in the nation in terms of tempo while St. Mary’s ranks No. 359. In a game of opposing styles, the Tide could be in serious trouble if they allow St. Mary’s to play their game and drag things out.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. EDT
