Twenty-eight Alabama-based construction companies have been named among the nation’s top-performing firms by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) National. The 2025 ABC Top Performers list recognizes contractors for excellence in safety, quality, project achievement, and workforce development, with rankings determined by total hours worked.

Three Alabama firms stood out in specific market segments: BL Harbert International was recognized as the top performer in the government and hospitality sectors, Robins & Morton earned the top spot in healthcare construction, and Brasfield & Gorrie led in the sports complex sector.

To qualify for the prestigious ranking, companies must participate in ABC’s STEP Safety Management System®, a program that helps firms achieve incident rates significantly lower than the industry average. Many of the recognized businesses also hold ABC’s Accredited Quality Contractor (AQC) credential, which highlights firms committed to safety, talent development, and community engagement.

“Competition is a driving force in the construction industry, and our top contractors demonstrate how open and fair competition leads to innovation and excellence,” said Tim Harrison, ABC Board Chairman and head of Harrison Construction. “These top-performing contractors win projects on merit and contribute to building some of the most enduring and high-quality structures across the country.”

Now in its seventh year, the ABC Top Performers list includes a diverse range of construction firms, from large corporations to small businesses, including women-, veteran-, and minority-owned enterprises. The companies featured have demonstrated financial growth, industry-leading safety practices, competitive compensation, and commitment to workforce development and diversity.

The rankings also highlight top firms across 19 market sectors, including airports, education, healthcare, industrial, military, and infrastructure projects. Firms are categorized into various groups such as the Top 250 Performers, Top General Contractors, and Top Trade Contractors.

The ABC 2025 Top Performers program is supported by industry leaders CNA, Milwaukee, and United Rentals.
