A New Year in Alabama brings a new leader against domestic violence.

The Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ACADV) announced that effective January 1 their new Executive Director will be Gena Richardson, longtime non-profit leader and advocate. She is a licensed mental health therapist and former state director of The Arc of Alabama.

The official announcement of the appointment was released by ACADV January 1:

ACADV partners with 16 shelters for abuse victims in many parts of Alabama.

The mission of the coalition is to work to strengthen Alabama’s response to domestic and dating violence through statewide coordination, training, advocacy and prevention.

They partner with domestic violence programs, community organizations, allied professionals and state agencies to expand access to safe, trauma-informed services and equitable support for all survivors.

They advocate for policies and practices that improve survivor safety, expand resources, strengthen accountability for people who cause harm and advance equitable access to services.

ACADV collaborates with statewide partners to address barriers, improve coordinated community responses and promote long-term systems change.

They provide comprehensive training, technical assistance and professional development to advocates, service providers and community partners. Their trainings enhance skills, support trauma-informed approaches and build strong, effective programs across Alabama.

They work to prevent domestic and dating violence by promoting healthy relationships, educating communities, supporting youth-focused initiatives and engaging partners in long-term prevention strategies.

ACADV raises public awareness and collaborates with diverse communities to build a safer Alabama for everyone.

Their domestic violence Alabama hotline is: 1-800-650-6522. For details, including how a victim can get help, go to: Home – ACADV
