MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The ultra-liberal Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) published what some are calling a “hit list” of women who are outspoken against Islamic extremism.
Despite the fact that at least one woman on the list literally had an attempt made on her life by radical Islamists, the SPLC said those ladies they named are “increasingly focused on attacking Muslims.”
Here are the 12 women on the SPLC’s list:
Cathie Adams – Texas Eagle Forum
Ann Barnhardt – Colorado-based blogger
Ann Coulter – Conservative commentator
Brigitte Gabrel – ACT! For America founder
Pamela Gellar – Stop Islamization of America founder
Cathy Hinners – Tennessee-based blogger
Laura Ingraham – Radio talk show host
Clare Lopez – Former CIA analyst
Jeanine Pirro – Fox News show host, former judge
Sandy Rios – American Family Association radio show host
Debbie Schlussel – Attorney, blogger, granddaughter of Holocaust survivors
Diana West – Author and columnist
When asked for her thoughts by website WND.com, Ann Coulter—who is perhaps the most well-known woman on the list—said, “It’s an honor just to be nominated for the SPLC’s list of conservative women who speak out against radical Islam!”
Clare Lopez told the website “Publishing this list of names—along with artist sketches, birth dates and home towns—is a call to the jihadist enemy to target and attack the 12 of us.”
The SPLC is well known for the multitude of “watch lists” it publishes throughout the year. Conservatives and conservative organizations often find themselves on those lists for holding beliefs contrary to the organization’s.
In February the SPLC placed presidential candidate Ben Carson on their “Extremist List” citing his pro-traditional marriage views, opposition to ObamaCare, and support for a flat tax as reasons for placing him alongside members of the KKK, Neo-Nazis, and the Westboro Baptist Church.
After a national outcry against the organization, the SPLC later removed Carson from their list and issued an apology.
In 2013 the Alabama Free Market Alliance added the SPLC to their own “watch list,” saying the organization is “known nationwide for utilizing the courts to move the country further and further to the left.”
Most recently they filed a suit in federal court against Alabama’s first school choice bill. Ironically, SPLC deputy legal counsel Jerri Katzerman told MSNBC that they are “fighting for all children who are in failing schools and don’t have an option to escape them.”
Because stopping school choice legislation gives kids and families more choices, of course.
