Southeast Gas, a natural gas utility based in Andalusia, was named one of the top 20 utilities in the country by Site Selection Magazine in their annual top utilities issue. The company, which serves over 32,000 customers across 19 counties in the Southeast, reports they have contributed to over $2 billion in economic development and growth in 2023 alone.

“We are honored to be chosen by Site Selector as one of the Top Utilities in the United States for 2024, which is a testament to our team and the dedication they show to Alabama every day,” said Greg Henderson, President and CEO of Southeast Gas.

“We are not just a utility company delivering a service to our communities; we are dedicated citizens with a goal of improving the lives and prospects of Alabamians, and we are thrilled that Site Selector recognizes our hard work and investments.”

Site Selector main selection metrics involve corporate project investment, job creation in the utilities’ service area and dedication to accomplishing projects on behalf of their communities and communities’ employers.

This past year, Southeast Gas hosted an educational summit on industrial site development, uniting economic development partners from across the region. This summit, coupled with strategic support, empowered four Southeast Alabama communities to secure nearly one-third of the $30 million Site Evaluation and Economic Development Strategy (SEEDS) Act Program funding, including the program’s largest single award of $5.7 million.

“I am proud of the work that Southeast Gas has been able to accomplish in serving municipalities, communities, and its thousands of customers in Southeast Alabama,” Enterprise Mayor William E. Cooper, who serves as Chairman of the Southeast Gas board, said. “Private sector support for economic development efforts increases our ability as mayors to be successful in improving quality of life for our residents, and the award announced today is much-deserved recognition for the work Southeast Gas does every day for our region.”

“Overhauling our economic development and community outreach programs to be a better steward for our service area has been one of the main goals of our team, and we are thrilled with the results,” Vince Perez, Southeast Gas Director of Economic Development, said. “Southeast Gas understands that we cannot achieve our goals as a utility without a strong, thriving business community and an empowered customer base. Thanks to the dedicated work of our team, our projects are making a real, tangible difference in the communities we serve.”

Established in 1952, the company serves more than 32,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers in 36 communities and 14 cities in Southeast Alabama.
