Alabama, Auburn each add two SEC East teams to 2020 schedule

As part of the COVID-19 pandemic’s effects on the 2020 college football season, both the University of Alabama and Auburn University are now set to face two more teams from the SEC East in the regular season than they normally would.

The Southeastern Conference recently adopted a 10-game, conference-only schedule for this season, with two more interdivisional games than typical for each member school.

The specific additions to each team’s schedule were announced on Friday.

The Crimson Tide gained a road game at Missouri and a home contest against Kentucky.

Auburn added a matchup with Tennessee in Jordan-Hare Stadium and a game at South Carolina.

Under normal circumstances, SEC schools play the other six teams in their division, two opponents from the other division and four out-of-conference games each season. With the out-of-conference games all being scrapped this year for SEC schools, this means the new regular season schedule is still two games shorter than usual.

As originally scheduled, Gus Malzahn’s Tigers have home games against Arkansas, Kentucky, LSU, Tennessee and Texas A&M, as well as games at Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and South Carolina.

Likewise, the Tide’s schedule still contains originally scheduled homes games versus Auburn, Georgia, Mississippi State and Texas A&M, along with contests at Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

Dates and times of the teams’ respective 10-game schedules will be announced by the SEC at a later date.

The conference on Friday also announced its initial medical protocols for fall sports, including football. These protocols could be updated before the start of the season, which is now scheduled for September 26.
