Alabama A&M, the largest Historically Black College & University in the state, is set to grow even more it appears.
The school has reported that its class of 2027 will be the institution’s largest yet with more than 2,000 first-time students enrolled. Last year, the school had 6,100 students – total.
“With their individual strengths, backgrounds, and aspirations, these students are already making their mark on the AAMU story,” Alabama A&M President Dr. Daniel K. Wims said. “We’re committed to preparing them for success in their careers and in life.”
“Students and families are choosing Alabama A&M in record numbers because of that commitment and the return on investment realized by those who come from The Hill.”

Director of Admissions Dwayne Green expressed his confidence with the new freshmen class.
“For some time we have used the mantra ‘Start Here, Go Anywhere,’” he said. “(Last) weekend we witnessed a cohort of students from diverse backgrounds who have heard that message loud and clear.
“They believe in the promise that our university can prepare them for life, and we’re going to keep that promise to them through graduation day in 2027.”
Other school leadership was pleased with the record enrollment, but want even more students heading to The Hill.
“This moment of history is just a starting point,” said Vice President of Student Affairs Braque Talley. “Our admissions staff, alumni, and entire University community have rallied behind this accomplishment. That’s added motivation for our entire team to go out and make history again.”
Students from 35 states and seven countries are entering as freshmen.
