AL-01 candidate Dean Young: ‘I’m against homosexuals pretending like they’re married’

Congressional candidate Dean Young made his position on gay marriage crystal clear yesterday during an interview with Mobile’s local NBC affiliate.

“I’m against homosexuals pretending like they’re married,” he said during an on-camera interview, which can be seen above.

Young feels like current members of Congress are not doing enough to protect traditional marriage.

“Congress is weak and spineless,” he said, “We get these mealy-mouthed politicians that just want to move up the ladder, and they won’t tell people where they stand.”

Young also expressed his support for the proposed ALGOP bylaws change that would remove members of the state party’s steering committee if they disagree with any part of the Republican National Committee’s most recent platform, including, but not limited to, gay marriage.

“If you want to have homosexuals pretending like they’re married, then go to the Democrat party,” Young said. “Marriage is between one man and one woman. No one needs to go to Washington representing the people of south Alabama if they don’t believe that.”

Young has drafted a pledge and has asked his fellow AL-01 candidate to sign it. None have taken him up on it yet, but here are the six points of Young’s pledge:

1. I believe that the only marriage is between one man and one woman.
2. I believe the Biblical condemnation of homosexuality and thereby gay marriage.
3. The tenants of my church oppose gay marriage.
4. I oppose gay marriage.
5. As a member of Congress, I shall take active steps to oppose gay marriage.
6. I support the by-law change to expel any member of the Republican Executive Committee who opposes the party position by supporting gay marriage.
