Ainsworth: ‘If Tennessee can six-lane I-65, Alabama should’

Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth is once again calling on his state to fix some of the traffic issues on I-65.

“While driving home from the Auburn/Kentucky basketball game it’s obvious that If Tennessee can six-lane I-65, Alabama should do the same,” said Ainsworth on Twitter. “It’s my number one infrastructure project for Alabama. Let’s all work together to make it happen and end frustrating interstate gridlock.”

According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation website, the state’s improvements being made Interstate 65 from Nashville to the Kentucky state line, include widening for approximately 25.8 miles in Davidson, Robertson, and Sumner counties.

This is not the first time Ainsworth has brought up the issue while traveling on the highway, making a post about it last October during his travels.

“Among the top infrastructure needs in Alabama is three-laning I-65 from the Tennessee line to Mobile,” he argued. “Far too often, I-65 is essentially one long parking lot. It frustrates drivers, hurts commerce, and fails to serve the needs of taxpayers. It should have been done decades ago.”

Traffic congestion on I-65 in Alabama is common, which frustrates many drivers as it is considered one of the main roadways in the state as it connects Mobile, Montgomery and Birmingham directly, while also connecting to I-565 to Huntsville.
