Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall is calling on JPMorgan Chase to halt what he believes to be religious and political discrimination against their customers.

“Conservatives continue to face backlash from ‘woke’ corporations that openly discriminate against customers for their religious or political affiliations by arbitrarily denying them access to banking services,” Marshall said in a press release. “Chase’s officers should be reminded that while snubbing conservative customers might be politically correct for the moment, that doesn’t make it financially or legally sound.”
Marshall issued the statement following JPMorgan Chase’s response to a letter the bank received last month from Marshall and other attorneys general regarding its aversion to viewpoint diversity.
The letter was sent by the coalition after Chase abruptly closing the checking account for the National Committee for Religious Freedom (NCRF).

“Last year, Chase de-banked a preeminent religious liberty organization. And this was not an anomaly, as there have been at least two other similar incidents,” said the letter. “Shareholders and outside groups alike responded by requesting that Chase disclose its policies for closing accounts and that it participate in the survey component of the Viewpoint Diversity Score Business Index. Chase has opposed both of these requests. Meanwhile, Chase celebrates its participation in the survey component of the Corporate Equality Index sponsored by the left-wing Human Rights Campaign. Quite simply, this viewpoint discrimination demonstrates that Chase is not the ‘inclusive’ company it claims to be. Nor is it one that ‘opposes discrimination in any form.’”
The letter also called on the bank to stop such discrimination, to be more transparent, and to participate in the survey component of the newly formed Viewpoint Diversity Score Business Index.
According to Marshall, the bank responded and confirmed that it is “actively considering participating in the survey in … 2023.”
