7 Things: Trump scowls in mugshot; GOP primary debate in Alabama likely; and more …

7. Red flag laws in response to the shooting at the Covenant Christian School are dead in the Legislature in Tennessee. However, the attempt to increase armed security in schools is still alive with one bill allowing law enforcement to decide to place the officers into schools without school resource officers.

6. U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks) wants the Government Accountability Office to probe the decision to steal Space Command HQ from Alabama. Rogers believes this is all about politics, not national security: “Preferential decision-making by the president because of certain state laws has widely been publicized as a major factor but was never included in the basing requirements.”

5  Birmingham-Southern College may be close to getting the financial aid they sought from the Legislature in the form of a loan after State Treasurer Young Boozer received an opinion validating the program from Attorney General Steve Marshall. The Distressed Institutions of Higher Education Resolving Loan Program lays out a scenario for relief that only Birmingham-Southern College could meet.

4. U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) has come out and publicly supported Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) attempt to get the Biden administration to follow the law by holding up upper-level military promotions and appointments.

3. GOP Debate numbers are in and it was far larger than most suggested with 12.8 million watching. Former President Donald Trump’s interview with Tucker Carlson is now sitting at over 200 million views but that comes with an asterisk because the video had 14.8 million 2-second views, even though the news from the interview is nonexistent.

2. The sound around a potential GOP presidential primary debate in Alabama continues to grow louder with ALGOP Chairman John Wahl saying it is possible and, we “hopefully get one here in Alabama.”

1. Former President Donald Trump took an iconic mugshot that will be viewed for years as a symbol of division for some and justice for others. He is also back on X, formerly known as Twitter.
