7 Things: Bipartisan shutdown talks could bear fruit as Redstone feels it; Alabama flyers impacted by flight cuts; and more …

7. The first College Football Playoff rankings are out and Ohio State is No. 1 with undefeated Indiana at No. 2, Texas A&M at No. 3, and Alabama at No. 4, with the top six from Big Ten or SEC teams emphasizing defensive strength over schedule.

6. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz sounded like President Donald Trump when he stated Syrians no longer qualify for asylum after the end of the civil war in Syria; he is expecting voluntary returns from 1.3 million residents, but threatened possible deportations for those who refuse.

5. Governor-elect National Championship-winning Coach U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) introduced the UBER Act of 2025, prohibiting ride-share firms from federal contracts if they refuse to require English proficiency from drivers.

4. Auburn is asking educators to certify that all Fall 2025 courses’ syllabi, content, and instruction comply with state law and federal guidance, after multiple reports of educators not following the law.

3. The record-long shutdown will lead to reduced Redstone Arsenal’s Fox Army Health Center services, primary care cuts, and the pharmacy will be limited to three days weekly starting Nov. 13; the Huntsville Mazda Toyota plant will donate $50,000 to the North Alabama Food Bank to help aid furloughed workers and SNAP recipients.

2. The Federal Aviation Administration is mandating 10% flight cut at 40 major airports, including Atlanta, Chicago O’Hare, and other major airports, due to shutdown-related air traffic controller shortages,; even though Alabama’s airports are not directly impacted, travelers are urged to monitor flight status.

1. There are real bipartisan talks to advance a shutdown end via an extended spending bill into January, with healthcare subsidies, funding for VA, agriculture, and military in the mix. Previous attempts have failed with Obama subsidies being a sticking point, so a deal is not expected today.
