6 of 10 highest wage counties in Silicon Valley, D.C. areas

The Bureau of Labor Statistics this week released data on the average weekly wages in the 346 largest counties in the United States, indicating that 6 of the 10 counties with the highest average weekly wages in the fourth quarter of 2017 were in either the Silicon Valley-San Francisco area or the Washington, D.C. area.

The other four counties in the Top 10 were in the Boston and New York City areas.

Santa Clara County, where Google is headquartered, ranked No. 1 with an average weekly wage of $2,576 in the fourth quarter of 2017.

That was 132 percent more than the national average weekly wage of $1,109.

New York County—Manhattan—ranked No. 2 with an average weekly wage of $2,439.

San Mateo County, which sits between Santa Clara and San Francisco and is where Facebook is headquartered, ranked No. 3 with an average weekly wage of $2,341.

San Francisco ranked No. 4 with an average weekly wage of $2,232.

Suffolk County, Mass. ($1,986), and Middlesex County, Mass. ($1,613) ranked No. 5 and No. 10.

Washington, D.C. ($1,812), Arlington County, Va. ($1,727), and Fairfax, Va. ($1,646), ranked sixth, seventh and ninth.

Fairfield County, the Connecticut County closest to New York City, ranked eighth with an average weekly wage of $1,688.
