Hundreds of law enforcement officers and first responders from across the state lined the 150-mile procession Monday to pay their final respects to the first Alabama police officer killed in the line of duty this year.
The funeral procession escorted Huntsville Police Officer Garrett Crumby from Huntsville to Tuscaloosa, where he was laid to rest. Crumby died in the line of duty last week after he and his partner were shot when responding to a 911 call.

Pushing through the cold and rainy conditions, dozens of agencies turned out in a true show of support for the statewide law enforcement community.

Gov. Kay Ivey ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of Officer Crumby. “As he is laid to rest today, we honor him and pray for his family,” she said.
“Officer Crumby tragically paid the ultimate price while protecting and serving his community, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said. “This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risk that our heroes of The Thin Blue Line Family take each day.
